To help stay ahead of COVID-19 in Toronto, effective immediately, Torq will be closed. We will plan to re-open on Saturday, March 28, 2020. Our hope is that by closing temporarily, we can have a small part in supporting our government and healthcare workers in helping to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus.
All memberships will be put on hold as of March 16th and extensions to expiry dates will be honoured. An announcement will be made when our site is open to accept bookings for classes resuming on March 28th.
This has been a difficult decision, and we hope you understand why we've taken this step. We will be back at Torq and riding in no time and look forward to keeping our community safe, healthy, and connected. We encourage you to keep up to date on what you can do to reduce community spread - we found this article particularly useful.

The Torq Team
Torq first opened in May 2016 and was quickly hailed as one of the best indoor cycling studios in the city by blogTO, Forbes, Flare and Best Health, among others. Our studio has 42 high-performance Stages bikes, each equipped with a console that displays your ride performance. Riders also follow their progress as they get stronger via individual performance emails sent out to riders at the end of each class.
Our studio features 40 Stages Cycling (SC3) bikes, complete with backlit consoles that allow our riders to see how hard they are working at any given second, as well as the average results for their ride up until it ends. Your performance results will be automatically emailed to you post ride so you can track your progress and continually challenge yourself to kick it up a notch. Pretty awesome, right?
Arrive 10-15 minutes prior to your ride start time. Please remove outdoor footwear in the reception area. If you have not signed in two minutes prior to the start time for the class, we will give your bike to someone else if the class is full and they are waiting.
Our bikes are compatible with any standard SPD pedal. You can also wear running shoes. We don’t rent shoes on site but we do have quite a selection of gently used pairs in various sizes available for loan. We also sell new cycling shoes and SPD clips in our boutiques.
We provide one sweat towel, free of charge, with each ride. Towels for showering also available.
Cancel online by 8pm the night before the ride. If you do not cancel by 8pm the night before, you forfeit the credit. Unlimited members pay a $15 fee for any booked ride not cancelled 8pm the night before. Fees are automatically charged to your credit card.
There is free street parking on Carlaw Avenue as well as on the north side of Eastern. There is also free street parking on nearby Morse Street and both Heward and Logan Avenue. Please take care to look at street parking signs for restrictions on any of these streets! Heward, for example, recently became 1-hour free parking only.
We often have rides that sell out. If the class you want is sold out, you can put yourself on the waitlist (as long as you have credits in your account). If other riders cancel and spots becomes available by 8pm the night before, you will be automatically added to the class in the order you signed up.
If you secure a spot by 8pm the night before, we will notify you by email. If you wish to cancel, you need to do so by 8pm or the credit for that ride will be removed from your account. Unlimited members pay a $15 fee for any booked ride that is not cancelled by 8pm the night before. Fees are automatically charged to your credit card.
However, even if a spot doesn't open up for you from the waitlist, you still have a chance of getting in. Just arrive at least five minutes before the class starts and we will give spots away to those on the waitlist in the order you signed up. It is not uncommon to have last-minute no-shows.
If you do not get into a class from the waitlist, your ride credit will be returned to your account to be used at another time. There are no refunds.
Please also note that if you put yourself on the waitlist for one ride but also book a bike for another class the same day, you will be charged for both rides if you secure a spot from the waitlist and do not cancel one of the booked rides by 8pm the night before.
There are three easy adjustment areas, seat height, handle bar height and distance between seat and handle bars. There is not a standard height equation – it depends on what is comfortable for you. Please arrive 5-10 minutes before class time so one of our staff can help you get the settings right.
Everyone has a first time! Set up an account, purchase your package (our first time rider series is 3 for $44!) or membership then book your ride and finally, choose your bike. You will need to sign a waiver the first time you come in. We will help you get set up and guide you along the way.
You also have the option of signing up for a beginner class. We will put the focus on form, ride positions and getting the most out of your ride, safely.
Our Leslieville studio is on the ground floor of 536 Eastern Avenue, at the northwest corner of Eastern and Carlaw Avenue.
Yes! We host private rides, charity rides and corporate events. Please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
Anything goes but we advise you avoid long, loose fitting pants that could get stuck in the pedals. We sell a full range of attire in our studio boutique, including cycling shoes with SPD clips. Our pedals also work with standard, indoor running shoes.
Our Stages Cycling SC3 Bikes capture your performance output as you ride. They will also be automatically emailed to you post ride. A quick guide to our bike consoles:
AVG COLUMN (right side of the console): Displays average values for your ride. If your instructor uses multiple stages (see "Stages Button") during a ride, average values for the current stage only are displayed.
WATTS: Your current power output - a combination of your speed and resistance - in watts. Average watts is the best number to measure your growth as a rider over time.
RPM: Your current peddling cadence in revolutions per minute.
SPEED: Your current speed in kilometers per hour.
CALORIES: Displays the estimated calories burned in an hour. Your post-ride metircs are more accurate given this number, given they take your weight (as entered in your Torq profile) into account.
STAGES BUTTON (Middle, bottom button): Use this button to divide your workout into multiple sections, or stages. Pressing the button resets both the time and the average column to display data for that stage.
AVG/END BUTTON (Right, bottom button): If you want to see your MAX and AVG numbers at the end of a ride, hold this button down until they appear on the screen. If using multiple stages during a ride, press this button once quickly and the screen will briefly display your average numbers for the entire ride and then return to the current stages values.
Yes! If you have a ride series (1, 2, 3, 5, 10 or auto renew), you can book up to three bikes for one class. Riders with an unlimited membership can purchase additional ride credits for friends.
Were you not able to make the most out of your series before it expired? Email us at email@example.com and we will give you a modest extension.
We encourage you to bring your own water bottles (our bikes each have two water bottle holders) and we have water fountains in the lobby and inside the studio. We also have bottled water and sports beverages available for sale.
We take your safety seriously. We follow best practice protocol and all staff are First Aid and CPR trained. We also have an AED on site. Please consult your doctor for guidance on an exercise program that is safe for you.
Loud music is part of the experience at Torq. We have earplugs available at reception if needed.
