Opened in May 2016, Torq offers an outstanding indoor cycling experience. Our Queen Street East studio houses 40 Stages bikes, each equipped with console that capture ride metrics. We track your performance through a software program that allows you to check in on your progress as you get stronger.
Our studio features 40 Stages Cycling (SC3) bikes, complete with Stages Power meter technology that includes data capture via Bluetooth or a standard USB drive. Your metrics will be automatically emailed to you post ride so you can track your progress and continue to challenge yourself to kick it up a notch. Pretty awesome, right?
Everyone has a first time! Set up an account, purchase your package (our first time rider series is 3 for $39!) or membership then book your ride and finally, choose your bike. You will need to sign a waiver the first time you come in. We will help you get set up and guide you along the way.
You also have the option of signing up for a beginner class. The work out will be fantastic, we will just put the focus on form, ride positions and getting the most out of your ride, safely.
There are three easy adjustment areas, seat height, handle bar height and distance between seat and handle bars. There is not a standard height equation – it depends on what is comfortable for you. Our staff can help you get the settings right.
Anything goes but avoiding long, loose fitting pants as they can get stuck in the pedals. We sell a full range of attire in our studio boutique, including cycling shoes. Standard running shoes are perfectly acceptable. Black tie optional.
We encourage you to bring your own water bottle and we have a filtered water fountain on site. We also have water available for sale.

We want to see you all the time! We recommend three times per week for optimum results. Some riders want an every day fix and some come once per week. We recommend a varied workout routine that includes yoga and strength training. Talk to us about other options for varying your workout routine – there are plenty of great places right in the hood!

We take your safety seriously. We follow best practice protocol and all staff are First Aid and CPR trained. We also have an AED on site. Please consult your doctor for guidance on an exercise program that is safe for you.
There is Meter parking on Queen (free after 6pm and on Sundays) and free parking on neighbouring side streets. We will work on getting more places to lock up bikes out front on Queen Street.
Do not park on the south side of Queen from 4-6pm or you will be towed!
Do not park on the north side of Queen from 7-9am or you wil be towed!
If you do get towed, we will give you a cold towel to cry into.
Loud music is part of the experience at Torq. We have earplugs available if needed.
Full time students or seniors (over 65) can purchase single classes for $15 per ride, for personal use only. Please visit us at Torq with your photo ID for purchase and special discount account set up.
Our Stages Cycling SC3 Bikes capture your metrics as you ride (Your metrics will also be automatically emailed to you post ride!). A few hints…
AVG COLUMN (Right side of the console) Displays average values for your ride. If your instructor uses multiple stages (see "Stages Button") during a ride, average values for the current stage only are displayed.
WATTS Your current power output - a combination of your speed and resistance - in watts. Average watts is the best number to measure your growth as a rider over time.
RPM Your current peddling cadence in revolutions per minute.
SPEED Your current speed in kilometers per hour.
CALORIES Displays the estimated calories burned in an hour. Your post-ride metircs are more accurate given this number, given they take your weight (as entered in your Torq profile) into account.
STAGES BUTTON (Middle, bottom button) Use this button to divide your workout into multiple sections, or stages. Pressing the button resets both the time and the average column to display data for that stage.
AVG/END BUTTON (Right, bottom button) If you want to see your MAX and AVG numbers at the end of a ride, hold this button down until they appear on the screen. If using multiple stages during a ride, press this button once quickly and the screen will briefly display your average numbers for the entire ride and then return to the current stages values.
Rides and memberships can be purchased here or in our studio at 978 Queen Street East. Once you have credits in your account, you can book a specific ride and select your bike. Registration is open 10 days before a scheduled ride. Sign up for as many rides as you like for the upcoming ten days.
We have four private showers (please be quick!) and three washrooms. Exhibitionists can change in the common areas. Some doors have a skull and bones symbol on them. Maybe don't be tempted.
Yes! If you have a ride series (1, 2, 3, 5, 10 or auto renew), you can book up to three bikes for one class. Riders with an unlimited membership can purchase additional ride credits for friends.
Arrive 10-15 minutes prior to your ride start time. PU- LEEZE take your shoes off at the front door to ensure no one lands in the wet spot! If you have not signed-in 2 minutes before start time and someone is waiting, we will give your bike to someone else.
Cancel online by 8pm the night before the ride. If you do not cancel by 8pm the night before, you forfeit the credit. Unlimited members pay a $15 fee for any booked ride not cancelled 8pm the night before. Fees are automatically charged to your credit card.
If a ride is sold out, you can put yourself on the waitlist. If a spot becomes available by 8pm the night before, you will automatically be added and notified by email. If you wish to cancel, it is up to you to cancel by going to the site and removing yourself from the waitlist.
You can also just show up and if spots are available at start time, we will give spots away on a first-come, first-serve policy. There are usually last minute no-shows.
If you do not get into a class from the waitlist, your ride credit will be returned to your account to be used at another time. There are no refunds.
Before you can put yourself on the waitlist, you have to purchase (or have credits in your account). The waitlist works the same as a regular reservation. If you do not remove yourself from the waitlist by 8pm the night before, you forfeit that credit. Unlimited members pay a $15 fee for any booked ride that is not cancelled by 8pm the night before. Fees are automatically charged to your credit card.
If you are scheduled for one class and then receive a bike from the waitlist for another class, you will be charged for both reservations.
We make one exception for riders. If this is your first missed class email firstname.lastname@example.org and you can expect the credit back in your account within a week.
We provide ONE sweat towel, free of charge, with each ride. Decadent shower towels or additional sweat towels are available to rent for $2.
There are plenty of SMALL lockers on site with digit combination locks. We offer limited permanent locker rental for $99/year. There are plenty of places to hang coats and leave outdoor shoes. And, no personal items in the spin studio or we definitely will subject you to the death stare.
Speed and Strength (50 minutes)
Challenge your endurance, build core strength and improve cardiovascular health with this ride that takes you through a series of hills, drills and sprints. You will fly and so will the time.
Pure Pop Ride (50 minutes)
Let the spirit move you Sundays at 10:30am with a PURE POP ride with Brian. Show up and sing along!
60 Minute Ride (60 minutes)
Push your endurance with this power-filled hour. Bruce leads the way.
Ride to the Max (50 minutes)
Join Anouk for this high intensity ride combining strength and endurance with interval training to build your VO2 max. This ride is designed to increase your maximum oxygen consumption. Whether you're training for competition or just want to improve your skills, Anouk will get you there! Hard work, max results.
Performance Zone Ride (50 minutes)
Get in the Zone! The PZR takes data to a new level - great for riders who already track their progress, or just want to remove guesswork about how hard you're working! TV screen above instructor in use all ride, and each ride starts with a 3-minute Personal Threshold Power (PTP) drill. Once your PTP is set, each rider will have their own watts meter on screen (like your very own colour-coded power-measuring speedometer!)
Watch your zones and colours change as Derek guides you through the ride. Hard data, hard work.
Not recommended for first time riders.
HIIT Ride (50 minutes)
If you’re someone who is looking to achieve a personal best and love competing against yourself and others, then this Bootcamp is for you. These classes are choreographed to killer Hip Hop music that set the tone of this aggressive ride. Playlists may contain explicit lyrics. Not recommended for first time riders.
Running late? Call us at least 5 minutes before the start of class so we can hold your bike for you! We will hold your bike for 10 minutes after the class begins, although it may be different than the bike you signed up for.
Our bikes are compatible with any standard SPD pedal, or, you can wear running shoes. We don’t rent shoes on site but we do have a dozen gently used pairs in various sizes available for loan. We also sell cycling shoes in our boutique. We would love to sell you a pair of cycling shoes.
