About Us

We first opened in Leslieville in May 2016. With our emphasis on performance, high quality studio sound and sense of community, Torq quickly arrived on the fitness scene as one of the best indoor cycling studios in the city.

We now operate our studio in Leslieville at 536 Eastern Avenue with state of the art Stages bikes, each equipped with a console that displays your ride performance.

A quick pivot in 2020 had us open our outdoor spin studio, bringing all the best parts of Torq outside. Torq also developed virtual ride programming, bringing high quality, performance rides to riders, anytime, anywhere.

What should I wear?

Anything goes but we advise you avoid long, loose fitting pants that could get stuck in the pedals. We sell a full range of attire in our studio boutique, including cycling shoes with SPD clips. Our pedals also work with standard, indoor running shoes.

How soon should I arrive before my first ride?

Arrive 10-15 minutes prior to your ride start time. If you have not signed in two minutes prior to the start time for the class, we will give your bike to someone else if the class is full and they are waiting.

What kind of shoes do I need?

Our bikes are compatible with running shoes and spin shoes. If you choose to wear spin shoes, our bikes are compatible with any standard SPD pedal. We don’t rent shoes on site but we do have quite a selection of gently used pairs in various sizes available for loan. We also sell new cycling shoes and SPD clips in our boutiques.

Is Torq too loud?

Loud music is part of the experience at Torq. We have earplugs available at reception if needed.

Does Torq take private group bookings?

Yes! We host private rides, charity rides and corporate events. Please email us at hello@torqride.com for more information.

What is Torq’s cancellation policy?

Cancel online by 8pm the night before the ride. If you do not cancel by 8pm the night before, you forfeit the credit. Unlimited members pay a $15 fee for any booked ride not cancelled 8pm the night before. Fees are automatically charged to your credit card.

How can I contact Torq?

Email us at hello@torqride.com or contact us via Instagram or Facebook.

Can I book a ride for my friend?

Yes - the more the merrier! Using your class package (of 5 or 10 rides) you can book up to three bikes for one class.

Is Torq safe?

We take your safety seriously. We follow best practice protocol and all staff are First Aid and CPR trained. We also have an AED on site. Please consult your doctor for guidance on an exercise program that is safe for you.

Our 10-ton HVAC system replaces every cubic inch of our studio with fresh air 15 times per hour. (That’s 5 times more than typical studios our size.) And our cleaning protocols are obsessive-compulsive.

Please reach out to hello@torqride.com if you have any questions about our cleaning or safety processes.

Where can I park?

There is free street parking on Carlaw Avenue as well as on the north side of Eastern. There is also free street parking on nearby Morse Street and both Heward and Logan Avenue. Please take care to look at street parking signs for restrictions on any of these streets! Heward, for example, recently became 1-hour free parking only.

What’s Torq’s policy on inclusivity?

Torq Ride is a safe space for everyone. Since our inception, inclusion has been part of the foundation of Torq and we’ve been committed to creating an inclusive environment, but we know we can always do better. To foster an inclusive, welcoming space for all, we have committed to:

Regularly update team training including anti-bias, anti-oppression and inclusion curriculum.

Continue to advance our actionable allyship and actively oppose oppressive and discriminatory practices in the wider wellness industry.

Continue to celebrate all bodies and vehemently oppose fatphobic and sizeist narratives in the fitness industry.

Exclude all music that includes lyrics which support cultural appropriation or include otherwise harmful, violent and non-inclusive language.

Creating our free ride bank in response to COVID-19, to ensure that everyone can ride at Torq regardless of income level.

Welcome and encourage feedback and suggestions from all Torq community members with the understanding that this is a dynamic and challenging process and we will undoubtedly make mistakes along the way.

Why does Torq charge HST on donation rides?

Per CRA regulations, Torq is required to charge tax on any transaction where the buyer is receiving something of value (i.e. a spin class!).
